Landcare began in Victoria, Australia in the late 80's with a group of farmers who saw the need tto tackle local environmental issues related to the production and degradation of their land. Since then, the Landcare concept has developed into a movement across Australia and even around the world.
In January 1988 Australia’s first official dune care groups formed on the mid north coast of New South Wales at Hat Head, Diamond Beach, Scotts Head and Diggers Beach, however many Australian communities had already begun practising Landcare decades earlier. Accounts from some of our most enduring Landcare groups have them tackling grass roots environmental issues as early as the 1950’s (Landcare Australia)
